I managed to escape high school entirely without once having my picture show up in a year book. This was probably due to many late nights spent reading Tolkien and Harry Harrison, or street racing.
At SIU - Carbondale, I majored in Radio/TV production, with minors in English, Music Business, and Computer Info Processing. It took 5 and 1/2 years for me to get out. I almost applied for tenure.
The drag racing continued, and was quickly joined by other outdoor activities (hiking, hunting, fishing, camping, and beer). My writing at this point mainly consisted of Sci-Fi, class assignments, and editorial blurbs for an ill-fated independent musician's magazine. Dungeons and Dragons took up at least one evening a week.
Out in the "real world," I've held a variety of jobs, most having something to do with computers. I got married, had kids (three wonderful girls), and bounced back and forth on the corporate ladder. It's been fun.
All the while, here and there, I continued writing. Lately, I've been writing fantasy. My work has been kept close to the cuff, as I've regarded it as a hobby. But, I'm getting more open with it.
...and this hobby is certainly less expensive than blowing up engines.
